No. In April 2023, the NC Supreme Court ruled that NC citizens who are on probation, parole, or post-release supervision for a felony do not have the right to vote in NC.

Yes! You can vote in NC if you have been previously convicted of a misdemeanor, or if you are currently on probation, post release supervision, or parole for a misdemeanor. If an NC citizen has only been convicted of a misdemeanor, their voting rights are never taken away.

Yes. You are eligible to vote if you have completed all the terms of your sentence including probation, parole, and post release supervision. However, if non-payment of any fines, fees, or court costs results in an extension of the probation/felony supervision period, then you will not be eligible to vote until that supervision ends.

Yes, you will need to reregister to vote if you have not registered post-conviction.
If you have a record but meet these qualifications for voting, we encourage you to register to vote by the Friday, Oct. 9 deadline. If your rights are restored after this deadline, but before Election Day, you can still register and vote during early voting or on Election Day.
